AOC held her first Twitch stream. She played Among Us with 435,000 concurrent viewers watching. Rep Ilhan Omar and some popular twitch personalities played along.

The stream was to encourage voting and discussion of politics.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020...-debut-attracts-over-435000-among-us-viewers/

reaching 435,000 people in a single virtual event is not a bad turnout. That’s over 20 in person arena style events in a single evening with no risk of infection.

No word if “orange was sus “. ;)

I would love to see a congressional briefing for the old timers trying to explain what Twitch is.

Ilhan Omar a gamer? Tweeting the specs of her sick rig?

It was actually borrowed from one of her staffers.

These two reps buy a $5 game and play for a little bit one night and touch nearly 500,000 voters/future voters. THESE PEOPLE GET IT. This is engaging the populace and the future like no other elected officials have done before. They are complete game changers (no pun intended)

I watched a little bit of it, no politics discussion that I saw, just talking about the game. I am tired of AmongUs streams, so I didn't stick around for long. Chat was a garbage fire, but twitch chat usually is at that level of viewers.

Meh.

I going to compare to my rig
  • Threadripper 1900X 8C16T vs 10700K 8C/16T same core & thread count but hers will be faster she wins
  • 32GB of G Skill vs 32GB of G Skill but mines in 4 channel vs hers in 2 channel I win
  • Red Devil Vega 56 vs Zotac 2060 Super about the same performance depending on game
  • 1TB 960 EVO m.2 vs 1 TB 970 EVO m.2 not much difference
  • 4TB WD Hd + 256GB 830 SSD vs 6TB SSD she wins
so her rig is slightly ahead in performance but not by much.
However my rig is circa late 2017 early 2018 vs hers from 2020

I’ve had roughly equivalent performance for 2 years. So I’d call that a win.

Seems weird to me to spend more on a processor than the video card for a gaming rig but it still looks pretty nice. Kind of similar system to mine except I have a Ryzen 2700X and a 2070 super and a little less storage.

Lol she has a better rig than me!

It's about the same as mine as I also have a 2060. Except I have a Ryzen 7 3800x. Not sure how that compares to the i7 10700k.

I'm loving that purple internal case light. I might have to get me one of those cases for my next rig.

Hah. My CPU was cheaper than my GPU. I stupidly chose the height of the mining craze to build my rig so every GPU was almost double the price and sold out in minutes for months.

Also in my case the machine is an office/gaming machine.

Oh yeah graphics cards were insanely high for a while, luckily I managed to avoid buying a card during that time. Went from a 980Ti to a 2070 super earlier this year and the price wasn't too bad on the 2070 super.

Back on topic. I do find her ability to reach that many people interesting. While policy talk was mostly non-existent it certainly didn’t take much effort, time or money to pull this together.

Its also not something older politicians could necessarily pull off.

Should make her opponents nervous.

In 2070 she'll be Pelosi. Until then she's the future of Progressives.

I hope not. That's too long in an elected position. We need to do away with career politicians and unlimited terms in office. Ironically, these two women would probably be the first to in line to agree with that.

As for her computer - it's not hers. It's a staffers who uses it for video editing apparently (hence the CPU being better than the GPU and the 6TB of SSD)
Stop trying to analyze it. She isn't a "gamer".

Oh man, young people can relate to someone that does dumb things like they do? What will these amazing young politicians do next?!

Make an AMA on Reddit?
Maybe make an appearance on Joe Rogan?

What amazing talent we have....

Apparently folks here haven't heard of this amazing thingy in life called "marketing"

Pretty sure they've already done AMAs on Reddit. And no way are they going to go on that idiot's pod cast. (at least I don't think they should/would). Maybe, just maybe, they realize that keeping in touch with the general populace and interacting with them on THEIR level and in THEIR world makes the most sense. Both for their personal careers AND for the benefit of the general populace too.

Considering this is a tech forum and a lot of us came here to research to build high end rigs for gaming, and many of us are still playing games into our forties and fifties and probably beyond, what is so crazy about these folks gaming too? They are younger than many of us guys who still game.

Seeing the number of people that "like" this post.... fully knowing that Illhan has zero clue what any of those items are... is just hilarious.

Christ, they wouldn't even know how to open the case let alone name the components inside.

Or maybe nobody cares whether she knows what they are or not. Only a fat fuck of a cave troll would denigrate her for that.
