just don't like being a n0ob and not having checked with fellow mates here who know better

half decade ago when I needed I used crucial.com

I need RAM for my Lenovo Thinkserver ts140

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkserver-ts140

is there any better / cheaper place to get it?

when I search for

8GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) ECC Memory

I see many

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...=8GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) ECC Memory&x=0&y=0

how do I know that they are compatible?

thank you so much

Here you go:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkServer-Towers/What-memory-modules-work-in-a-TS-140/td-p/1359677
Memory module installation rules

Your server has four memory slots and it has the following features:

 • Each slot supports 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB DDR3 unbuffered dual inline memory modules (UDIMMs) with Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) technology.
 • The minimum system memory is 2 GB (only one 2 GB memory module installed in the DIMM2 slot).
 • The maximum system memory is 32 GB (one 8 GB memory module installed in each of the four memory slots).

Memory type 1600MHz UDIMM, DDR3, ECC, 2-channel capable; 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB ECC UDIMMs are available

Memory DIMM sockets Four 240-pin DIMM sockets

Memory capacity Up to 32GB (8GBx4)

Memory protection ECC

Actual memory operating speed depends on processor memory controller speed, installed memory speed, and quantity of memory DIMMs

. . . And that forum thread leads right back to Crucial. Looking at the items priced in the link posted by the OP, that looks about right for what you'd spend elsewhere, unless you could find a barebones module/model that's less expensive.

And, after all, it's ECC RAM.
Yeah, I was just answering the OP's "how do I know that they are compatible" question...
Sorry I wasn't clear.
