while working on the invitations, fiancee came up with the idea of setting up a wedding website so we can share detailed info, pictures, etc with our guests that we just cant fit into the invitation. Well I already have a hosting acct so paying one of those companies to do it wouldnt make sense. besides, I'd like to have a bit more creative control over the website than what these companies would allow. Already have the domain name set up, now comes the hard part.

I dont really have the time to start something from scratch so if I can find some kinda template somewhere, I can modify it to fit our needs. Anyone here know of anyplace where I can get what I'm looking for?

update 5/20. so I decided to just build my own instead of using a template. Started with wordpress and the k2 theme and styled it to look like our wedding invitations. Also added extra functionalities like shadowbox slideshow for pictures, guestbook, a countdown timer, etc. What say ATOT?

check your web host company if they have RV Skins. Might be some decent ones in there for you. otherwise, I have some free template sites that allow small hobby sites use there templates. I'll have to find them.

That idea is genius, and if you had the time/knowledge, it sounds like something you could do for profit.

Not for me though... I'd probably cringe and start taking bets on something.

i'll check, but i doubt hostpc has anything like that.
lmk if you find those template sites. as long as I have a starting off point, I can change the css, images, colors, etc to make it fit our style

oh it's already a well established idea. wedding window already creates sites like this and this

The first one (gerber daisy) was the one my wife and I used for our wedding site. Pretty easy to modify.

Actually, I just used wordpress.

I created the "pages" and made the first entry the welcome page. I just could never update it as a blog. But it served my needs pretty well.

I already have a wordpress blog on my personal site, so Im a little familiar with it's layout. Did you have your blog as the first page or did you create another page and have that as your main page with blog as a link in the menu? That's what Im aiming for - I'd like to have a static welcome page but I also want to retain a blog feature. I know wordpress allows creation of secondary pages, but Im not sure how to have one of those pages as the first page

edit: nvm - you answered my question in your post. I shouldve read more carefully

Thank you and thank you. I didnt know much about php so it took me a while to get everything working the way I wanted. Still doesnt work 100% in IE6 (all CSS properties arent correctly rendered by IE6) but Ive given up on IE6
