Find someone you know that has an "authorized" provider, have them setup a VPN or SSH tunnel. Open said tunnel to their machine, create a route using FoxyProxy in Firefox to forward all www traffic through said tunnel.

This is UCLA's proxy: http://proxy.ucla.edu/cgi/proxy. Try that and see if it works.

You could search around for other schools and see if they have that information available.

It's not BS at all.

ISP's are PAYING for ESPN 360 by the customer.

Nothing is actually free.

That's not how it works at all. The ISP pays a fee to subscribe to the service.
