Anyway to use a laptop's keyboard, mouse, and lcd screen to control a server pc without one ?

I don't need to use the server pc much but would like to have faster response time than controlling it remotely from my other pc. Its so slow and laggy when controlling any pc remotely. Takes forever to catch up. I tried speeding it up by going to black and white but that didn't help at all if it did it was not noticeable.

What type of server, and OS?

What the software that you are using to control?

How it is connected?

If you have physical access to the server, why not just leave a kb & mouse connected, and find a really cheap, small LCD screen to use for just that server? Or is there another specific reason you wish to use laptop hardware?

I just want to control the server pc sometimes. I guess getting a kvm switch would be best. Thanks.

You can install UltraVNC (if it compatible with the OS) as a service on the server and control it from any computer with the UltraVNC viewer.

Give it a try it is free and takes few minutes to install.

You can turn a laptop into a dumb terminal yes.

There is a wide variety of ways and means to do this.
The most common old school way is via serial port.

There are lots of linux distros which can do this as well.

VNC is probably the easiest way and it is free.

Same installation can do both.

The LAN part would work as is using local IPs.

Through the Internet you need to configure the Routing, port opening, and know you external IP.
