Anyway to split a screen into 2 windows desktop?

Just got a 24" monitor and it's quite big for regular web surfing.

Is there a way to split the screen into 2 desktops (kinda like multi monitor but with just 1 monitor) so I can do independent task on each side of the screen?

OS: win7 x64.
GPU: Nvidia GTX580 in SLI.
