I was attempting to place FOP38 HS onto my cpu. I was setting the clip on to the cpu socket. When I heard crack and nice piece of the socket came flying off. Yes the piece the holds onto the clip. Anyway to salvage this?
Hrmm... you could always try and super glue the piece back onto the socket, though I'm not to sure how well that would work, or using some other adhesive that can handle the CPU temps. Otherwise I can't think of anything else.
I recently purchased a socket PIII motherboard which the former owner had done the same exact thing. I simply used a very tiny hand drill, one made for drilling carburetor jets, and drilled about a quarter inch (maybe a little less like 3/16) into the socket into the area where the piece broke off.. then installed a very small round headed screw. Properly centered it is a stronger solution and worked great. The head of the screw now acts as the hook for the cooler retainer.
