from a prescott?

its impossible ~ the core is adhisived to the IHS.
itll break the core upon removal.

Are they also gluing the newer Northys' IHS?

What about first cutting the sealant, drilling a hole in one corner through the IHS, then using a tungsten carbide cutter to remove most of the surrounding IHS so that you would be able to get to the adhesive with some acetone to eat away at the adhesive?

Would a hammer work?

i thought the IHS was supposed to make it so it dissipated heat better?

it just adds another layer to the heat dissipation
if they were made out of copper it would be much better but even then yur better off without an IHS
their main benefit is to keep people from cracking cores

They're actually made from tin plated copper :p But it's true they add two unnecessary layers of heat resistence to the mix in favor of keeping cracked cores to a minimum.

i got mine off my old 2.66B using just a box cutter, i liked that cpu, too bad it had to die (its death was not caused by the removal of the ihs)
