Anyway to retrieve a WinXP Home cd-key?

Right now I tried to overlay the partition because it wouldn't boot into Windows. I'm stuck at it asking for the cd-key. Is there a program out there that'll find it through dos or through other means, maybe even booting into a Knoppix CD?

This is for a customer, not for myself. He said he doesn't have the cd-key.

I believe you're stuck... if you have ERD commander, you can boot from it and load up a previous system restore point though

unfortuanly windows stores the key in the registry is encrypted so unless you have a way to load the registry, ie with erd commander there is no easy way of getting it. there is a program out there called magic jelly bean key finder which can read it, as long as the registry is loaded
