Anyway to remove Direct X?

I am having problems (device failures mostly) and I have attributed the problem to Directx 9.0. I have downloaded DX9.0a and now I have a new set of different problems. I think both problems are due to my sound card (SB Live! X-gamer 5.1) and some conflict with DX 9.0. Anyway I would like to try removing DX 9a and all soundcard drivers and try installing DX 9a first THEN install the newest SB drivers. Is there a program that will remove DX 9? Or do I have to reinstall XP to get rid of DX 9?

In case it matters here is a quick rundown of what I have:
Windows XP Pro- version 2002 with SP1
ABIT NF7 (2.xx drivers)
AMD XP 2700+
GF4 4400 (43.45)
SB Live! X-Gamer 5.1 (not currently at my computer, so I do not know the driver version. But the most current one available from Sound Blaster)

Thanks

there is a tool named "DX9 Uninstaller" do a search and you'll find it. It removes all DX9 files and entry, and then restoreing DX8.1 from the WinXP cd

I would suggest checking for a system restore point in XP before you installed DirectX 9. It was recommended that you create one before installing, and DX9 itself might have created one for you.

I think trying a restore point is a better solution than using a tool to uninstall DX9. Although, I have had bad expierences with both routes...

I think the only sure way of getting rid of it is to re-install XP.

Disclaimer: Always backup your data before re-installing or going back to a system restore point. 🙂
