Anyway to network an Apple with a Compaq?

I won't go into much detail (time is important) but I'm wondering how I can network an Apple notebook and a Compaq desktop. We need to move MP3s from the Apple to the Compaq. Can I do this like normal with some CAT5 or will it require extra software to get them to see each other. Also, do I have to have Crossover cable or is normal CAT5 ok? thanks for any help!

You need some sort of extra software.

Thursby makes apps that let macs and PCs share. NT server lets you share Mac voulumes.

The cheapest solution is to d/l and install hotline server on one of the machines and client on the other. That's what I used to do before I got my file server.
