i mean when you go into a folder full of videos and all icons are huge so i go into properties, customise, optimise this folder for:

i always choose documents. have this set as stanard across the PC in general but at random it changes back. sometimes when i add another video (or music file, or image file depending on the folder) but it will turn back at some point.

any way to lock ths down?

i just finally updated this PC crom 8 to 8.1 and was hoping it would fix this but noooooo :'(

My ICON size on Win98se is set @ 32 (Not big @ all)

Is it possible for you guys to lower your icon size?? (32 might be too small on your monitors but they can be made smaller GLOBALLY (They should be able to be))

Can't you just click on view and change the icon size? Here's what a folder full of vids looks like on my 8.1 pc. Post a pic so we can see what you are refering too.

Setting it how you want is not the issue. The issue is that Windows starts "forgetting" how you have folder views set once those folders have a large number of files in them.

For example, I have a HUGE music collection on an external hard drive and have it organized alphabetically...the [A] folder having all bands starting with A...the folder having all the bands starting with B...and so on.

Then each band folder has that band's album releases each in their own folder and of course each album release folder has its corresponding tracks and an album art image.

Now I can take the time to sit and set the folder views up the way I want them...the main folder containing all the lettered folders set to Large Icons...each lettered folder set to List...each band folder set to Extra Large Icons...and finally each band's album release folders set to Details with the detail columns set up showing the info I want.

Now I can get this all set up the way I want and be pleased but within a couple days or so Windows decides to "forget" how I have everything set up and starts setting each and every folder to whatever view it sees fit...usually Details with the column info all jacked up.

From what I can gather by reading online, this has to do with the fact that Windows struggles to maintain large collections of data and information and has for as long as I can remember going back several OS releases.

I've seen some say you can fix this behavior by editing some settings in the registry but I have tried and tried seemingly all the suggestions and still can never get Windows to remember my settings.

I've started using MusicBee to manage my collection now.

^ what he said

i mean if i have a bunch of random files and windows decides to "customize" if for music, what the hell good are "track", "rating" etc sorting options going to do?

most of these are missing the "date modified" option and more annoying (for me) than anything else is that the icons are freaking huge! i like list view. rare ocasion where i change that but it should still stop doing this.

p,s, love the list of pirated movies and Hugh Jass pirate logo 😀

I used to get that "disappearing" status bar in an old school version of IE as well.

It's like MS does stuff like this just to irritate people...like some long running trolling of the highest order.
