376 is the lowest at Pricewatch right now. I went ahead and ordered the Leadtek for 399 no tax 12 bucks shipping. I have the PNY card in right now but I am taking it back cause the Leadtek will overclock much better with the kikass heatsink it has on front and back.

I think that the best deal on the higher-end video cards, particularly those branded by VisionTek or ATI, is to buy the card at CompUSA, along with the $29.95 2-year insurance plan. This plan allows you to return the card for any reason within 2 years and receive the full original purchase price of the card to spend in the store however you wish:D! So, what's the outcome? You spend $429.99 +tax on the Ti4600 now, and you can upgrade any time you want; in 6 months the "ultra" version will be out, in a year the NV30 will be out, etc. The high-end NVidia cards always cost $399.95 at CompUSA (GF2 Ultra, GF3, Ti500, etc.), so your upgrade is free;). Each time you trade in for a new card, you'll have to buy the $29.95 insurance again, but $30 is ALOT cheaper than any video upgrade I've ever made.

Case in point: last year, I bought a VisionTek GF3 when they came out, which I got through the Gateway deal at the time which totalled about $310. I sold it this year for about $150 (you do the math:(!) and bought the Ti4600 using the aforementioned plan because, as an upgrade-a-holic, I'm tired of taking an ~$100 hit on every video card upgrade;).

ok... thanks for the info .... for ... when you return the card within 2 year.. do they refund you the TAX too ?

and also.... when you return the card.... they don't give you cash refund .. but store credit... which you suggested to use it to guy another Video Card (upgrade) ....

now..what is I buy the $430 card this year. +$30.. and then lateron ... I return it and thing are cheaper in the future and the top card is only $350 ? .. what will happen to the $70 ?

Also ... may I ask how long has this progrem (insurance) been going ? ..... cuz I think once you get into it.. you have to watch out if one day.. CompUSA cancel the policy or if CompUSA folds...

.. and I just don't understand why CompUSA wanna do this .... they is going to make they loose money.... :)

anyways........ have you tried this ? ..for how long ? ....

sorry for all this quesiton.. but I just want to get more info B4 jumping in ..

thanks

In watching newegg and mwave over the past couple of weeks I noticed the GF4 pricing was initially pretty low (eg. $260 for a Ti4400). Today some Ti4400s have climbed to $300 and beyond. Of course still no actual stock yet. :)

oh oh .. along w/ the CompUSA insurance...

if CompUSA take American Express..... AE will refund the difference if you find anywhere sells it for lower.... so... humm..that sounds good...

this "insurance" that CompUSA is now offering has been around for a while, according to a buddy of mine. he used it to upgrade his Logitech Z560 speakers to the Klipsch 5.1's, simply adding the difference to the initial price of the Z560's. I'm not sure how CompUSA plans to make money on this, except that most computer retailers seem to make quite a bit of extra money on service contracts/warrantees. . .then again, that's their problem, not mine:p

hope that helps;)

. . .and using the AMEX price-protection policy would certainly help to further offset the cost of upgrading:D

When I got my PNY from them the sales guys started to ask me about some deal and I stopped him right in his tarcks and said NO, I didnt even know he was going to offer me what you just said. Anyhow I am still returning the PNY card when my Leadtek gets here. But thx for the heasdup on the compusa program.

I called the CompUSA here in Seattle.. the guy said the $30 is like an extended warrenty .. that is if the product breaks w/i 2 year... they will give you a replacement....

not that you can return the product w/i 2 years and get a full store credit...

any idea on this ErikaeanLogic ?

I will go into the store in person next week to check this out.....

but anyone have any insight/experience ?

pls share..

thx
