anyway to get dual monitors on a Dell laptop

I had the impressions that Inspiron 8100 can do that.

The only "current" mobile video chipset that can't (and I'm aware of) is the i815EM, which happens to be mine and pisses me off.

Go to your display properties, Advanced tab and enable the second monitor.
 
most laptops can do one monitor as the laptop's own LCD, and one as the external out. most of the non integrated post neomagic chipsets can do that. i think he wanted 2 monitors , not infcluding the lcd, in which case you'd need a cardbus card, from appian or margi, etc.
