I have an X58 board that has forever been stuck in 8x mode pcie gen 1. Not a problem but I am still using the board and eventually will be upgrading to a faster GPU. This will likely cause bottleneck. I've only observed it in 8x mode via CPUz. Is CPUz accurate when reading the pcie lanes?

How many PCI-E cards do you have installed and what type/slots?

What board/model?

If it's the asrock board in your signature, you're presumably using a RAID card to get extra SATA ports for those 10 drives? It's probably "stealing" lanes and forcing the GPU slot into x8 mode. (That's normal behavior.)

The manual should have a listing of PCI-E lane configurations, dependent on which slots are populated.

I just realized it might be from the way I have cards installed. I am using the 1x slot, then the pcie slot right below the 16 slot so it might by default be putting the main pcie slot at 8x

the EVGA, btw
