Looking to see if there is any way to download and put updates on a CD
instead of having to use the Microsoft update page on the net.

Seems lately that the website is awfully slow to respond and download.

I'm mainly interested in Windows 98 and XP critical patches and updates.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Windows xp stores downloaded updates in a folder... I dont remember which one, maybe temp something. Anyway if you let windows auto update and dont actually install them I bet they would all be in that folder then you could burn the contents. I've wanted to try this for a while but never got around to it, plus 56k would take awhile (days probably) to do it.

Or the other option is to use the Windows Catalog. On the Window Update page select personalize and you will see a box to check... Select that then on the left hand frame of the Windows update page you can select Windows Catalog. Search and download without installing to your hearts content.

ok with autopatcher xp - does it have to be installed on each machine or can it be ran from remote intranet location without being installed?

i want to basically store it on a server based machine and then run it from the run menu and have it kick off.. also i noticed when you open it .. you have to make setting adjustments, is there a way to save a settings file and run that with a parameter and have it just take off as soon as it is run?

example:
\\server\patches\autopatcherxp.exe /settingfile.ext

.. any help is greatly appreciated.
