Anyway to disable windows update (temporarily)

Last patch tuesday, one of my colleagues was giving a formal lecture at work. When, half way through the presentation, up pops the windows update dialog pops up.

'Your computer will restart in 60 seconds unless you press cancel' - except cancel is greyed out. Well, 60 seconds later the computer restarted, and brought his presentation to an unintended close.

The IT department aren't too keen on the idea of disabling the auto-update system, and the guy I spoke to didn't think it could be switched off for just one PC.

So, as I'm talking in a couple of months time, is there anyway to abort the restart once the countdown begins? Is there something I can ctrl-alt-del?

sounds like he has it set to automatic download and install. to change it right click my computer and select properties. Automatic updates tab either change the time of when it does it auto installes to a time where it is not likely to be in the middle of something ie early morning or late evning.
or one of the other options.

You have to love how Tablet Edition will automatically lose any unsaved work if you're away from the PC for more than 5 minutes.

It sounds like he doesn't have privileges over the Automatic Updates feature, though. Mark R, have the admins change the policy to allow the reboot to be delayed by the end user.
