From what I recall, OSX only grants read access to ftp using finder. Is there any other way I could link OSX to a directory on my webserver and use it like a file server? I would prefer not to have to use a separate ftp client like usual...

Yes, Finder only allows read-only access when you connect to a ftp server. It's silly, I know, but just the way it is. I guess they figure most people would be using it only for that purpose.

Another vote for Cyberduck, but if you need it for one time usage you can get by with the Terminal FTP command.
