Anyway to alter NTFS from dos, or other bootable os?

At my school, we constantly have windows 2000 crash. We keep getting the ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. Using shareware ntfsdos, I can see that the kernel is in fact missing. Is there anyway I can copy another kernel to that ntfs harddrive from dos?
