Anything worth upgrading to from GTX 570

Hey guys,

It's hard to believe it's been over 2 years since I picked up my GTX 570. It's been running strong and even now I can't complain about performance. I haven't been following the video card market very closely these days. Is there anything actually worth upgrading to from the 570 (for 1080p gaming)?

Well...

a 7970 1ghz ed. would be like a ~60% increase in performance (450$).
a Titan would be like a ~100% increase in performance (1000$).

Id consider performance jumps like that "worth while".
The 7970 Ghz ed + overclock would give the highest bang-buck.

However if you cant complain about performance, why bother?

I tend to buy things in the mid/high range, not the absolute top of the line. I'm also not too interested in going with dual GPU solutions (including SLI/xfire).

I ask the question simply out of curiosity.

Probably not worth upgrading if you stick with mid range. A 7870 or 660Ti would be a bit faster as I recall, but certainly not worth the money.

I had a gtx570, it's a great card, but lacks the the memory, with only 1.2 gbs, I upgraded to the gtx670, it's a faster card, with more gbs, and runs very cool, I know the gtx570, can get pretty hot

A 7970ghz oc can be up to 100% faster. A Titan oc will be 100-150% faster.

A 7950 boost oc for sub $300 can be 75-100% faster tops.

A 7870oc can easily be 30-50% faster approx in many cases for $220 or so

The 7870 and 7970 are great cards, but I didn't suggest them because I'm an invidia fan and not a big fan of ATI.

The 570 can indeed get quite hot. Around 80 degrees celcius in my case. My particular card came pre OC'd, and I need to down clock it in some cases because it will cause certain games (BLOPS2 and Sleeping Dogs for example) to crash randomly.

What situations did you start to run out of video memory? At 1080p I wouldn't think memory would be a huge concern. In fact the only games I ran into any performance issues were in Metro 2033, and Crysis 3 (only the part where you are moving through the grassy field).

Unless you feel like spending some money and want to buy a 7970 or GTX 670/680 it wouldn't really be worth it.

I'm also looking to replace my 570 and found that a good OC on a 7950 beats a 7970 GHz and the GTX 680 so if you want to save money go for it...I think I will too.

Most 7950s can't be oced high enuf to beat a 7970ghz. At most you can equal it. A 7970ghz can be oced further as well.

1. 7970s mem oc higher both at stock and oc.

2. 7950 mem 1250. 7970ghz mem 1500. All other things constant that is about 10% performance diff or at least 6-8%.

3. 7970ghz is 5-10% faster clock for clock so needs 75mhz less. So a 7950 at 1125 wil just meet the 1050 of the 7970ghz. Still 7970 will be up to 10% faster because of the faster VRAM.

4. No matter what you do, oc vs oc a 15-25% difference will remain, always.

5. Assuming you get a 50th percentile chip with reasonable volts and life
7950 core 1100-1150
7970ghz core 1150-1250
7950 mem 1300-1500
7970ghz mem 1600-1750

6. Assuming you get a top shot chip
7950 core 1150-1250
7970ghz 1250-1350

So 7970s not only oc higher on core but also on the mem and also are faster clock for clock amongst other things.

Is this the official 2013 GTX570 owners club?
Hello,

I still have a GTX570 and I'm a bit indecisive."

So 7970s not only oc higher on core but also on the mem and also are faster clock for clock amongst other things.

This is wrong on many levels. I have tested 3x 7950s and 6x 7970s and in no cases did I find the 7970 to have a better average OC on the core or the VRAM. In fact the highest VRAM speed I have got at stock volts is from a 7950 that hits 1700.

A 7950 and 7970 will clock to almost identical core clock speeds on average and the 7950 is only around 7% slower. Here is a post with benchmarks showing how close the HD 7970 an HD 7950 actually are at similar clocks on my system.

Note both of these cards are running at max stable clocks and the HD 7950 is getting higher core and VRAM speeds.

Not even considering a budget at this point. I was just asking out of curiosity more than anything. Sounds like I am find just staying as is for the time being and waiting for the next generation to be released.

I'm not too interested in overclocking TBH.I would overclock if it was easy to do and I needed the extra performance, but I would never buy a card based specifically on it's OCing potential.

It depends what you consider a worthy upgrade. For me it's as close as possible to double-up on performance. I went from a HD5850 to a GTX670 and it was a great upgrade for me.

If I were to use the same criteria coming from a GTX570, I'd need a Titan. So no, nothing worthy out there. Sit tight and wait for next gen :)

Yeah I am of the same opinion. Not much point in upgrading unless it's nearly 100% performance increase. Especially there aren't really any games out there I can't max or at least near max out.

I see the heat has slowly been killing your card. I've got Evga classfied overclocked 448 (steam punked version)(intel cpu fan on one of the spots)lol . The gf110's are really power/heat monsters. If you are thinking of upgrading: Getting a gtx 670 or 680 will see very nice bump in perfomance. Two gigs of ram, etc. I would suggest a twin fan setup to get the most from the turbo boost and heat. I'm not totally happy with blower style fans anymore. I've managed my 680's heat, But rather have something in twin frozr type style like the gtx 660 I also have. (1150 boost all day long) A gtx 660 is about same performance as my 448 gf110.(psst..660 is faster). Latency is much less also(win, win) 1080p won't know what hit em'. Good luck on what ever camp you choose.
