Anything (worm/virus/spyware/apps) out there which could cause IE to fail to load Java applets?

Hi folks,

The company I work for runs a web based system which uses a Java applet. It works fine 99% of the time. But for some strange reason, there are pple who complain that the applet doesn't load "all of a sudden". Some of them do admit that they have installed some stuff prior to that, but they never name the apps.

Has anyone here heard of anything which could cause what I've described?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Problem: the employees can install stuff. Take that power away if at all possible.

Round up a few of the problem computers and give them a rigorous antivirus/antispyware inspection, unless that isn't practical due to distance/politics/whatever. Who's your security vendor, btw?

Yes, they have Java installed (mostly 1.5; but shouldn't matter neway). It usually goes like this: "I've tried to login to your site and it doesn't work now. But it used to work a few days ago...." :D

Security update [windows]
Security update [firewalls/security suites]
malware
plug-ins that interfere with java
incorrect cookie settings [advise them to delete their cookies/internet cache every so often]

I dunno.
Fire them anyway
