We are visiting orlando before and after our cruise this Feb and wanted to do something fun, but not go to the parks.
I would like to stay in the area so we dont have to rent a car!
I know there is the Space Center nearby, but i was thinking of trying to find something different to do, not the usual tourist stuff!
Any ideas?! 😀

Its hard to find a place in orlando that isnt touristy 🙂

What kind of stuff do you like to do?

I like history, good food, being outside, art...
almost anything.
i looked on the orlando tourism website, but all i could find was theme park info.
We wont have much time to spend there, but might as well make the best of it!

The theme parks aren't even in Orlando - they are quite a distance away (30+ minute drive). So you'd have to rent a car to visit them anyways.

I can't really add to your discussion, but it is a pet peeve of mine when people think the parks are in Orlando. Kissimmee Saint Cloud is the nearest city.

Very true, the airport is quite a bit away from everything (kinda in between downtown and the theme parks). You could definately take a cab, or hell, they might even have free shuttles to various places...

The airport itself is actually pretty cool, even has a small mall inside it. The airport is on an old Army/Air Force base so it is pretty damn big.

Im gonna rack my brains and think of something to do in Orlando that isnt touristy, its quite a hard feat to accomplish... I'll post back once i think of something 😀

Next sunday morning - arrive back at port canaveral
Monday afternoon - fly home

I haven't been there since 1980 or so, but back then they had some McDonalds with bilingual menus, you could get Coke in glass bottles, there were some topless bars, that was about it.

They may have added on by now.

i would like to know also.

i'll be in Orlando in March, for annual AACR meeting (American Association for Cancer Research). i'll be presenting what i've been working on for the past two years or so. but at nighttime, i'll be out to experience the nightlife. are there good bars and restaurants there? also, i'll probably stay behind and visit some theme parks or something.

Visit Oldtown in Kississimi. I think that the local hot rod clubs meet on wed nights to show off. Oldtown is sort of touristy but free.

They have every bar and restaurant imaginable.

Lake Buenavista is also cool.
