Anything special about soldering iron sponges?

Is there anything special about the sponges that come with soldering irons? Are they able to withstand high temps while ordinary kitchen dishwashing ones burn?

I lost my sponge. I imagine I can get other sponges from electronics stores (does Radio Shack have them?) but in the event I can't make a visit, will an ordinary dishwashing sponge do?

I just use wet paper towel haha, learned that from my electronic class in HS. seems to work fine...

yeah any sponge will do, just keep it semi-wet

Cut a dime sized hole out of the center. Trick I learned, it collects all of the drippings in it.
