Anything special about assigning a print server an IP from a router?

I have a Lexmark E250dn which is hooked up to an ASUS WL-520GU router. The status print-outs from the printer indicate the UAA which I assume to be the MAC address (12 characters, starts with Lexmark's 00-04-00).

I put that MAC address into the manual IP assigning field in the router setup and gave it 192.168.1.3. I saved and then reset both the router and the printer, which means that the router should've switched from its previous 192.168.1.4 and gone to the .1.3, right? But the printer driver which was set up to use 1.4 continued to print documents. I wasn't able to fool around with it as long as I would have liked, but I think I already did something wrong.

Any ideas?

Your better off using the Printer utility to assign a static IP that is out of the DHCP range.

By doing so the printer would always be availble at the same place (IP).

huh

Guess I'll try that next time. The people using this printer like to turn off the power when it's not in use to conserve electricity.

Then it is even more important to assign a static IP.
