Anything similar to a Palm Pilot these days? No Phones

Here's a weird problem I'm having - I'm a real estate agent and clients routinely call me (while I'm out of the office) to make or change appointments, but I find the juggle of looking at my blackberry calendar while talking on the phone annoying... I would love a dedicated PDA sort of device and wonder if there are any options out there. I'm ok with syncing periodically via wifi but, short of buying a phone just for this (which I won't), what are my options?

PlayBook and Bridge. It's ideal for this scenario.

EDIT: or any headset.

I *hate* headsets, though playbook's a great idea.. I have an iPod touch's wifi syncing with google calendar seems pretty inconsistent.

Thanks! Playbook it is, hope there's a price cut soon ;)

an android tablet would sync with google calendar perfectly. that would be my choice in this situation. you can get used galaxy Tabs for pretty cheap.

Any phone without cell service activated.
A tablet. Maybe a Dell Streak or Nokia N900.

Or just get yourself a bluetooth headset.

You know those ads AT&T had where they show somebody using their phone and data while also still talking on it? Yeah... this is exactly what those ads were hinting at. Few people need to use it like that, but you seem to be one of them. Use a headset or headphones and you'll be fine.

Unless you were actually looking to blow 200-400 on a device to do what yours already does.

Actually, I would say an ipod touch. It's basically an iphone, and it's cheap.

Or learn to do more with what you have.

I agree with what the others are saying, the iPod Touch is pretty sweet, and they're tiny as hell, nook color or Samsung Galaxy Tab would be fine too... and cheap.

You can score a refurbished iPod Touch for $149 (previous gen) or a current gen 8GB for $199 from Apple with a full warranty or scrounge on Craigslist for a deal.

The nook or Tab would give you a lot more screen real estate for your calendar work... and for less than 1/2 the price of a PlayBook.

A dell streak seems kinda perfect. I really like the form factor of my old palm pilot just without the cost of a 3g data account, so tablets are a bit overkill for me..

And I hate bluetooth headsets and putting earbuds in for every call while commuting as much as i do would suck... I might just use my iPod touch but I hate their calendar app, though I'll look at replacements.

Should also check out the HTC Flyer... I played with that thing today and it was pretty damn nice.

You could get a brand new Palm Pixi Plus for around $45 shipped and not activate it on Verizon and use it as a WiFi only device. Would work great for a PDA type device to sync calendars, emails, etc when you're connected to a WiFi network.

HP Pre III and the TouchPad - once they release.

Being able to update one and having it sync with the other when they are in close proximity is genius.

Photos, music, pics, calls, and urls - genius!

*All* headsets? Have you tried them all? o_O

Why do you hate them?

I would think that a real estate agent would die without using a headset of some kind.

MotionMan

I haven't found a pair that doesn't fall out and the feeling of something in my ear without music playing is weird to me. I feel disconnected from my environment too, and think I'm going to get run over by a cab or something! It's stupid, I know, and I'm weird.

I've set my ipod touch to sync to my blackberry's calendar and it should auto-update at work and at home, which is good enough for me! I really dislike the default calendar app and will search for a better one eventually. A playbook or streak's really tempting since web browsing/apps blow on my blackberry but the battery life so great that I can't go 'droid, so it'll be nice to have a nice little connected companion and organizer once the I can justify the purchase. And people using 10"+ tablets always look like tools waiting to get mugged on the subway, so 5 or 7" might be a better compromise :) Thanks for the ipod suggestion, duh - I should have thought of that!
