In the navy we can put our new ID cards into it.
Its the only way we can access some government sites.

A now defunct web site of mine used smart cards plus a password to restrict access to confidential data.

Main problem was back then IE didn't have very good smartcard support. Don't know if its any better now.

Some enterprises are now starting to use smartcards to replace the noraml Windows XP login.
