I'll probably be there in May having come in from BWI and am looking for suggestions of interesting things in the area. I've been to downtown DC quite a few times so I am looking more for things northwest of there. I haven't been to the Air&Space at Dulles yet so I'll probably drive down for that but I'd probably have both Saturday and Sunday and maybe Friday afternoon to do whatever. Beer, wine and hiking tend to be towards the top of my interest list. Thanks guys!

Fredrick or what us DC suburbanites use to call it Fredneck (as in lots of Rednecks) use to be that far away town now it's just another suburb of DC practiclay.

If you like History there is always Harpers Ferry National Historic Park down the road. https://www.nps.gov/hafe/index.htm.

If you like Hiking the Appalachian Trail is nearby. And the ATC (Appalachian Trail conference) HQ is in Harpers Ferry. Lots of side trails around Harpers Ferry as well.

If you like RC slope Flying My club has a slope right outside of Frederick near Middletown.

If you like regular RC flying we have a field in Rockville and there is one germantown.

If you like full scale soaring there is Mid Atlantic Soaring http://www.midatlanticsoaring.org/

If you like old school aviation there the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum http://www.maam.org/

As someone who has lived like 45 minutes from Frederick my whole life, other than going to watch a game at my cousins this past NFL season and doing a zipline excursion at Harpers Ferry, there has been absolutely no reason for me to go that way in my 36 years on this planet.

EDIT:

Oh I remember another time! When I was projector shopping someone on AVSForums had the one I was interested in and lived in Frederick, so I drove up there to check it out. It was in the boonies but since it's so cheap to live there, there are some big ass houses.

You can hang out in my basement.

Frederick apparently has a somewhat chill, up-and-coming hipstery downtown thing going on. Also, if you are into antiquing and quaint farm life, there is always that to explore.

Hey we should arrange one of those nerdy AT meetups. I'll go if shorty promises to go.

According to the Maryland tourism bureau you can catch baby birds at the ball park in Frederick. Seems kind of cruel but I guess folks get pretty bored there.

I'll be driving into Frederick to play an indoor soccer game in a few hours. Downtown Frederick can be pretty sweet. https://www.visitfrederick.org/listing/downtown-frederick/54/ There are some nice restaurants and some interesting shops.
There's not that much special about the rest of Frederick though. I can recommend heading up north to Gettysburg to see the battlefields though. That can be a nice day trip. The ghost tours are also pretty cool.

Hagerstown to the west of Frederick really doesn't have much going for it (other than me). There are a few decent restaurants, and the mall here is okay but nothing I'd go out of my way to see.
