I really started to hate dialup again and decided to see when something better was going to be in this small farm town. In my look I found out that we have a Wireless Internet service offering a 512kb/sec connection. Link to company

The price isn't too bad if you lease the equipment. There's a $200 setup/installation fee and then prices are $49.95/month with the option to buy the hardware at any time.

Now I figure this will hold me over until our city gets finished building its own Telecomunications Network which won't be done for another 2-3 years.

So, my questions are, what's bad about wireless internet? I've heard that the lag time in games is terrible, is that true? Will my connection go down during a storm? Can you upload on a wireless signal, or do you need a land-line for that? Anything else I should know about?

Actually ince you are the network, and hackers are violaters, I believe you need a today sponge.

Checkpoint makes very good sponges.

I was thinking of making one out of scratch using redhat, but it tears.

Seriously, though, as for cconnection quality, just assumig you are recieving radio stations at your pc.

As long as there aren't too many obstructions in the way you'll be fine.

Take into account storms and shifting trees...It's not like you live a forest or anything...but it does matter sometimes

there are trees in the way of the transmitter, btw.

I asked them about this a while back and they said they could "loan" me a signal booster in order for me to get a strong enough signal.

If the signal integrity stays high I Say take it.

Dsl is definitely faster, but this is a possiblity you should definitely consider.

can I upload as well?

the equipment (according to their site) is like $750 for the basic setup package :Q Does it cost so much because I send out a signal while I'm uploading stuff?

Also, is this a rather unsecure connection? I would imagine it is considering someone could just sit outside my house and probably see everything I'm downloading if they wanted to...?
