anything I need to know before formatting a DELL?

I'm about to format a DELL to clean it out for a friend and I want to know if there's anything special I should know. I 'm used to servicing my own home-built machines and I haven't had experience with store-bought ones as far as repair goes. Thanks,

minus.

Just make sure you know what every piece of hardware is or that you have all the drivers for the hardware.

Dells are alot like homebuilt computers. Finding the right driver off the resource cd can be tricky if you dont know exactly what hardware is in the machine. You can go to www.dell.com and enter the service tag number and it should tell you what hardware is in the box, and give you step by step instructions on how to install the drivers. If that dosnt work you could call there tech line and the phone tech will tell you the hardware and the directory which the drivers are located in.

Make sure you have all the software that he wants on it. Some machines came/come with software pre-installed.

I agree with all the others, I actually just formatted two Dell 4100 P4 1.6ghz machines, and I'll say this for Dell, that was teh quickest, easiest and cleanest install of Win2k I have ever done. Was a dream come true.

You can get all the driverers you need off Dells website.
