Anything I can do about coworkers that don't do... anything?

First off, I'm sure I'm just going to be told multiple times to MYOB, and I usually do, but sometimes it gets to the point where I just get so frustrated that I want to do something.

They stand around near my desk talking to other employees that don't do anything, and I feel helpless while I'm sitting here doing real work. Mind you, I don't work all day every day. Downtime happens and I understand that, but these people stand/sit around and talk ALL day every day, and then when you ask them to do something they complain about how it's not possible to do in a timely manner.

I really wish the Bob's would come to this place... Actually, I wish I were a Bob. What kind of job is that? I could do it easily.

IN my experience, no, you can't do a damned thing about them.

Except watch them get raises or promotions you don't, because they're good ass kissers.

I know how you feel OP. One of the guys I work with cuts corners on everything he does. And finds any reason he can to get out of doing actual work, and everybody else would get stuck doing his work. It became extremely maddening for everybody in our department, but we all knew it wasn't our place to say anything to the boss.

Well, the boss finally noticed, and called him out on it in a department wide email. It was awesome. Now he's really picked up the slack, but we'll see for how long.

best thing you can do is to see if it is a rising trend among the employees and if it is consistently rewarded. if it is, and you are not that type of person/worker, then leave asap before it becomes everyone doing nothing and you doing everything.

Does your work depend on what they do?

If so, you can bitch that "Joe and Bill have fallen behind, and I can't get XYZ project finished until I get (blah-blah) from them. Can you see what the hold up is?"

If not, just tell them to find a new place to hang out.."Hey...if you fuckers want to hold a convention...rent a hall."

Old Japanese proverb:The nail that sticks up, gets hammered down.

I think that applies here. Good Luck with that.

This is more or less my approach. I don't generally deal with bosses though, I'd get on their ass myself. Otherwise, it's pointless worrying about what other people are doing. There's always someone who gets more money, less work, gets away with more shit; whatever. Just worry about yourself. Do your work as you see fit. Whiners are a piss off for everyone. You'll fuckup someone else's gig, and get the boss involved when he doesn't want to be involved. Aside from a brief moment of smug satisfaction, everyone loses.

Unless I'm being paid to be a supervisor, it's not my job to get on someone else's ass for not doing their job.
I might ask if they have <such and such> done so I can do my part...but otherwise...just let the guy who gets paid for being the boss do his job.
If someone else's gig is fucking off...too bad. Do the job you get paid to do...or go home.
