I'm starting to wonder if I should go with a web based calendar app or what? All I really can think about is Outlook 2000 for sharing calendars. Does anyone have any other ideas?

What is it that you don't like about Outlook2K? What particular features are you looking for?

Looking for something cheaper and that has a site license. Other than that all I need is a basic Calendar with times on it like outlook has.

We use something called meeting Maker here at work for enterprise (if you really wanna call it that) calendaring. I can schedule a meeting with other folks and they can confirm electronically, etc. It just doesn't integrate with Outlook (my e-mail client, Netscape is used corporately).

You can try anyday.com - it is free and you can also publish your calender. It can also be integrated with Outlook, PalmPilot, etc.

e_mc_2,
I am in a very similar situation as a SysAdmin for a small startup.
Look at CorporateTime from Steltor (formerly CS&T/Lexacom).

They are becoming a popular choice among universities that dread MS Exchange nightmares.

It provides calendaring equal to Exchange Server with:
- leaner profile
- all platform (even Linux BeOS Amiga)
- palm hot-sync and outlook plug-in available

I downloaded the demo and ran it on a Sun Enterprise 250 - it rocks.
(The Outlook Plug-in is identical to the folder view you get with Exchange)
