Now that the only SD television that I own is in the garage, been thinking strong about retiring my Canon Elura 100.
After looking around and reading up at camcorderinfo, it seems that the best bang-for-the-buck is Canon's HF21. I like the large installed memory, optical stabilization and max-rez HD capability, and I'm not willing to sacrifice these features.
On the downside, I can only assume it has low-light perf issues like its predecessor, the HF20 (can't find a detailed review on the HF21). This is probably the only sticking point.
One curious thing...my Elura was impossible in close quarters, so from the first day (over four years ago) it has had a wide-angle lens attached to it, which made everything perfect. Does the newer cameras like the HF21 have the ability to do the same filming result as the Elura plus wide-angle lens? Otherwise, I fear that everybody is always going to be in "close-up mode".
The camera will be used almost exclusively for home video, usually indoors, incandescent lighting. There will be times that I will need an external mic, so that's a requirement. Is there anything in the $500-550 range that can beat the HF21? Thx.
