Anything bad I should know about Time-Warner cable, internet, and "digital" phone?

We have a decent internet connection, though we've had some problems before with it (going out a few times, poor service, no afterhours service), but our cable is junk. It has a really bad picture on many of the channels, no HD of any sort, lackluster service, and frequently goes out during rainstorms because all they do is feed many of the channels from DirecTV and Dish (so it's like the worst aspects of satellite with none of the benefits). Our phone is fine, but they charge too much.

I can get all of these for about the same price we pay now for the current service, with 5Mbps internet, local and several cable HD channels, DVR, and nearly triple the channels plus free long distance (and the choice to use our home phone for long distance, since we mainly use cells for it).

What's the downside to them?

Time Warner is better than the other options. I have HDTV DVR and internet. Speed is good, not many problems with signal, and customer service is ok. They make you use their modem in my area but they don't charge extra for it.

Do you know if that is that the policy everywhere in TX or just in Austin? I was thinking of replacing thier modem with a Motorola. I'm in Houston, btw.

Oh yeah, the OP - I have HD cable and internet from them and would call them the lesser of the necessary evils - not bad overall.

How can the digital phone compete with Sunrocket, which is about half the price?

Reliability (in some places) and single bill convenience, that's how.

When I moved to Austin I already owned a Motorola modem so I asked if I could use it. They said it takes a few weeks to get into their system and the price is the same as using their modem. I'm using their funky looking black generic modem right now and it works fine.

my old ISP Adelphia was great, internet was supposed to be the 4mb rate but I consistently got around 4.5~5mb downloads. Cable was cheap too; internet + cable was around 60 bucks/mo. now TWC is taking over, servers are switching over and i'm now part of the Road Runner network. internet was "upgraded" to the 6mb rate, but I hardly get over 3mb. I'm on a 6-month promo plan where the plan now costs 75/mo too. Time Warner's regular rates are ridiculously $$$, so I plan on switching to dish network for cable once the promo's over. Be wary if your region is undergoing a server transition. TWC  in my books so far...

I liked time warner when I had it. Seems like they are better than charter, which is my only other cable company experience. As with all big companies, you might have to jump through hoops if you want to get cable cards.

Roadrunner is excellent. Their cable is on par with everyone else but their DVR is a piece of crap. Granted it has been a year since I used their dvr but I hated it.

Digital phone is too expensive for me and I even could have gotten it for free when they were doing trials!
