I know I shouldn't be complaining and I should be grateful for having a job.
Currently working for a private school and the pay sucks!!!!!! On top of that I answer to someone
who isn't fit for the job. I came on board as an "assistant" to the current Network Administrator.
Basically I was told that I would do desktop support while the other guy does the network stuff.
Mind you, if you do a good job of configuring/maintaining the network from the get-go then there
wouldn't be problems with the network. Sure, you'll get a few glitches and stuff, but it doesn't consume
the whole 8 hours each day!

So ... now I find myself doing desktop support and administering the servers. I dont mind becuz I like
to keep myself busy. Since I started last August, I've made plenty of contributions. Email server was
installed, migrated to Active Directory, and most importantly made the faculty/staff/students of the school
more productive in their use with the computers.

I find myself doing all the work now and I've held his hands. He gets a call to go do something and he wants
me to tag along. He fears he might fvck up and he admitted it. This guy can't even map a printer to save his life!

It's gotten to the point where I wanna quit, but I know that's not the best thing to do nowadays.
The computer teacher knows my so-called boss doesn't know what I know and she told me to go talk to the big boss.
Well, the big boss won't do jacksh!t and I know she'll just say everything is fine becuz I'm doing my job and he's doing
his. If she knew what the guy does all day (watch p0rn, read articles online, and tries to find some sort of new thing
to do to make quick money) then he would've been fired.

he's worthless and he admitted if he went somewhere else he wouldn't survive. He's got it made at this current job!

Sorry for ranting but it's catching up to me. I'm sick and tired of working with stupid ppl! He thinks he knows everything
and demands to be paid more money. It's so fvcking annoying when he introduces me to other ppl as his "assistant."

cliff's notes:

your coworker is passing off your work as his? just be lucky to gain the experience, while subtly dropping hints that all his ass are belong to you (make him your bitch).

that is all.

screw it, hang in there, learn as much as you can, get as many projects to work on as you can. at least desktop and server dept are the same. you can end up in a environment where both places have their own boss, 'decentralized' and then you would never get involved with server issues to gain experience at.

Big boss wants to sit us both down and go over our job description. I can care less about what i'm supposed to be doing, but
he's worthless!!! He thinks he knows everything when he's talking on the phone with support from veritas and Sony, but
when someone wants to access a shared printer or needs to add a new user to the network, he has no clue.

Basically, he started as a network admin with no exp. Mind you, ppl work their way up.

truth is u cannot exepct wages to be high..
i mean the techno in schools can't be that volatile so
once u have things going, its basically more mundane desktop
stuff. Another thing is, u can't really expect any advancement
in that area..i mean u r in school no matter what.

still good for the market out there now though and i know
plenty will jump at your position in a heartbeat.

Yea ... only two reasons keep me at this job.

1 - There's nothing out there! No one is hiring.

2 - I do whatever I want. Install whatever I want and learn whatever I want. But he's so annoying.

It really bothers me he makes more money than me and doesn't even know the basics.

Simple fact is.. you can press if you are willing to leave the job. Right now... that could hurt a bit!
On the other side you don't make that much less them him, so your choice is to swollow some pride and take the opertunity to learn more and gain expiriance (which looks good on resumes).

Once you are prepared to leave your job press the issue and see what happens. Bets of luck!

Will never happen!!! Boss lady thinks he knows more than me. She sees no reason becuz he's been there for two
years and nothing major really happens. He keeps to himself, therefore there are no problems with him.

I could say something, but she'll just ignore it. Shes the type where if it doesnt affect her, she won't do anything about it.
We have two maintenance guy. One works FT and the other only works Tuesdays-Thursdays. The FT guy doesn't do anything!
He literally sleeps on the job. The other guy comes in and finishes up whatever the FT guy doesnt do or didnt finish.

Boss lady knows becuz all u hear on the loud speaker is "Al ... call extension so and so" "Al ... PLEASE place salt on the sidewalk,
the kids are slipping down the hill!"

Computer lady says I shoudl pretend to quit stating I dont feel comfortable working for the moron.
Then again she might not care and just say goodbye.

I felt superior when the idiot told me if I left he would be toast! No idea how freebsd works and active directory
makes his head spins. I wish I could record what he says in the office

You haven't even been there for a year. You're on probation in many places for the first year. I wouldn't be protesting too mucheth until your year is up.

32k for a 'admin' is very low but i guess the perk is you can enroll in school for free?

28k for dekstop title can sort of be low as well but not as low as the admin. currently is.

yes, well you will get the last laugh i hope but this situation is becuase he got there before you, what can anyone do.

the other thing is, it's not how much you know, but how much you can get the employer to pay you for what you know...

seems like he did well in that department.
