So this might come out a little complicated-sounding.

I currently share an old, out-of-contract family package with my father. Just two lines. I'd like to switch the secondary number (which i use) to a new number so my mom can have her own line and she and my dad can share the family plan. (MyFaves 800 probably.)

Then, I would like to become my own account, on a single line plan, so basically a completely new activation. But I'd like to keep my old number.

I'd like to do this all as smoothly and cheaply as possible, in a way that allows all three of us to get new phones (preferably for cheap, or free after rebates.)

A friend who works for TMO told me that what I want can't be done, that I can't transfer my existing TMO number to a new TMO account. True or untrue?

Does the rest of this make sense, and is it doable? Thanks for any advice.

Yes you can. It will just cancel your line on the family. Then your mom would just have to join your dad's plan. Although I'm not sure if they would have to sign a new contract.

But if you don't want them to sign a new contract. Give your phone to your mom, she can then change the number, and you sign a new contract. Granted you wont be able to pick or have your old number back, but your parents wont have to sign a new agreement.

So there's probably no way for me to 1.) keep my number, 2.)bring it to a newly activated account, and 3.) have my parents not need to sign a new contract.

That's what I was trying to work around. Thanks.

Have you considered ringing them up and asking them the very same questions you have asked here?

Yep, just call 611, they can do everything you're asking about.

I you get a new plan they're having a killer deal on Blackberries right now.

Well like I said, I've been talking with a co-worker who moonlights at TMobile and used to work there full time, he said there's no way to do it. I know he wouldn't lie to me to make a buck, and he's a pretty smart guy...but I guess he could be mistaken. After the positive votes from oCp and Pliablemoose, I will enlist a second professional opinion.

Wait if you'd like a BB, but want a cool flip format on T-mo...

Screw that, get a refurbed iPhone and only sign a year contract or less because you don't have to buy a subsidized phone from them.
