I was thinking of a career change. Either an architect (much schooling to do), or joining the Coast Guard. Coast Guard sounds like a very interesting choice. I have talked to only 1 person who is employed with them. He loves it, pluse he mentioned that the pension is great.

2 electricians i know spent a few years in the coast guard, i never talked to them about it much, but from what theyve said they loved it and thought very highly of it.

if youre up for it, i dont think anyone could say it would be a bad thing.

my roommate for 3 months was coast guard, he loved it, although at the time he had a lot of boring days on duty waiting for nothing to happen...but he moved when i left to go to helicopter school to become a pilot...also had to get laser eye surgery because they require a certain vision for pilots..

coast guardies are the toughest of the lot. anyone can get in a fight with another person. the CG gets in fights with god(nature) and lives to tell about it.

I understand that the boats they drive are designed to roll back upright if they happen to turn over.
