Trying to help unlock a Samsung Propel (SGH-A767) from AT & T because the new residence doesn't have service. They are voiding the contract since according to their database they don't have coverage at that address, but they are being difficult about providing the unlock code so the phone can actually be used on a network where coverage is available. I found instructions online on how to do it, but need the 8 digit Subsidy Unlock Code. If you can help, please PM me.

I don't know why it wouldn't be. The phone was purchased from AT & T, and due to a move they are no longer able to provide service due to gaps in their coverage. So now all I want is to be able to use a phone that was paid for when the original provider is unable to make it happen. The fact that they will void the contract with no penalties or ETF seems to indicate that there isn't an issue with it to me.

OF COURSE it's legal. Why wouldn't it be? It's your device and you're allowed to unlock it. The subsidy lock is there in the first place so the provider will recoup their losses in selling you the phone at a reduced price. Since they're cancelling out his contract, ATT is forfeiting their claim to the subsidy and they need to give him a code. Most phone subsidy's are paid off within the first year of service anyway, and in most cases an active sub can get an unlock code after 90 days if in good standing.

JDMnAR1, if ATT is still being a turd about an unlock code, you could try Fleabay. I bought an unlock code for my Tmobile Wing for $9. Tmobile wouldn't give me one because I was no longer a customer (canceled and paid off my account over a year ago), so I said screw it and went to fleabay.

If your account is still open call and tell them you are traveling over seas and need an unlock code so you can use a prepaid sim card over there.
