I recently received 2 XBox games as gifts which I already owned. I don't have the receipt and was wondering if anyone knows if Gamestop will take these brand new games back and give me store credit for them.

I'm not looking to get cash back, just wondering if they will give me store credit for them if I don't have a receipt. I might be able to get the receipt still because the person who gave them to me may still have it, but they weren't sure if they did. It would be good to put the credit towards the xbox360 I already reserved to make the purchase in November cheaper :).

UPDATE: So I found out that they most likely will just give you store credit as if the game was used, even if it is still shrinkwrapped.

Now my question is, do they publish a list that each game is worth, or do you just have to go there and show them the game then they look it up and tell you how much you get for it?

I cant quite remember but i think you might need a receipt for cash back. If you want the credit towards the 360, that might be easier. Make sure they dont give you what they give for trade-ins though!! get the full price.

As long as the games are still sealed and shrinkwrapped I don't see any reason why they wouldn't issue you full store credit.

I tried this once, the game was fully shrinkwrapped but they would only give me credit as if it was a used item.

They give you the shaft on pricing for these games. I highly suggest you take them to Target, where they'll give you full credit for these games without a receipt. Sometimes they even give you cash without a receipt.

Tradestop.com can give you an idea just how badly you'll be screwed when they give you trade-in credit.

We give a 90 day return policy on all used games if it breaks, stops working, blows up, becomes self aware, etc etc. And a 7 day "try it and see if you like it" return policy on used games. If it's crap, you can bring it right back and we'll swap it out.

However, if you got a new game, then things aren't so spiffy. You only have 30 days to bring it back in case it stops working, and there is no grace period for trying the game out.

You're only real option is to trade them in for store credit, which of course is going to be considerably less. You can call in and ask for the price, but most people get a little annoyed by that. If you ask me, I can probably tell you off the top of my head.
