Anyone work at Barnes & Noble or Borders?

I tell you, working there is like a death by ants 🙂

Sorry, i have no clue, but I just wanted to to say that 🙂

I applied at B&N, they offered me a job, then told me for $7.00/hr I'd have to wear a shirt and tie, or at the very least business-casual every day. I told them no thanks.

Are/were you in high school?

My brother worked for B&N. But this is at a Long Island store and I know how you hate LI so...

i applied fresh out of HS...
they never called.
this was in summer of 2002.

they can go to hell! lol

I applied the one near MSG in Manhattan

If you do get a job at B&N, tell them to put a few bookfinder workstations in. With a map of where is can be found in the store. Finding a specific book = waiting for a salesperson.

If I do, I will. Finding stuff in most bookstores and libraries is a pain in the arse. Having maps available (at a minimum) should be expected everywhere.

No, at the time I was 25 (5 years ago) and I was going back to school part time. I needed a job that was flexible with my school schedule. What I didn't need was a job that would require me to buy a whole new wardrobe ($$) in order to make little more than minimum wage. That was really the only thing that prevented me from taking the job. Today, I wear a shirt and tie to work every day, but I make far more than $7/hr.

Other than that it seemed like the job would've been okay (easy work, chance to meet chicks, etc...)

i had a gf who worked there for some time. it was an ok job if you like dealing with people. she liked the people she worked with, though, so i'm sure that helped.

I worked at a Borders that was located extreamily close to my high school. I took this job in my junior year there and worked for about a year. The atmosphere there is generally quiet and relaxing unless someone happens to enter the store with 5-6 little kids running around. The borders i worked at was very lax about dress code, you could pretty much wear anything unless it was covered with holes. Generally the people you will meet are decently nice and at least somewhat educated as all there can read. Then there was that attractive redhead that worked on the counter next to me. Could've sworn that she was only 18..ended up being 27😱

Ha, I worked at a Borders for two years a long time ago, but it was in the CAFE so my input is apparently not wanted. 😛

I guess being the chairman of the board doesn't count
