I've worked in equity research for 10 years and am very familiar with banking. Is your interview in banking now? You need to get your story straight.
I interviewed with BAS during their "technologist" recruiting. AFAICT, it was just a buzzword for recruiting from technology/engineering schools with candidates who did not necessarily have finance background. My on-campus first-round was pretty easy, I think it was a dumb/not dumb filter. The on-site was a day's worth of interviews with MDs (heads or seconds of the sponsoring groups), which I screwed up by having done zero background research. There were 20-30 other candidates in this wave, so there were plenty of memorable Type-A people to choose from.
It sounds like you're in a different recruiting initiative. If your description is correct (i.e. meetings with various groups), I would pick 2-4 baskets to put all your eggs in. Pick specific things that you are or could be interested in, then become interested in them and know them up and down. When you get to the interviews, chances are that you'll get at least 1 of your choices covered somewhere and can ace that interview.
- Don't be dumb. You need to do pretty well on any brainteasers that they give you.
- Don't suck. Your non-goal interviews can sink you, so do them okay.
- Be focused. You need to make at least one interview stick.
thank you, that's what i wanted to hear all along. i am doing mock interviews with some friends who already have offers from the summer. can't think of better ways to prepare
