I want to visually learn how it's done. Show me some basic ideas and fundamental concepts behind the whole thing. I already understand what a database is at a very basic level. If you're real good, I'd pay you some cash! Or I can also teach you some advanced lead guitar stuff if you're into that sort of virtuoso n trembelo stuff....

Anyway, I'm a quick and eager learner with some application goals in mind. PM me with time and date. My AIM SN is ugpyoshi. Thanks.

what do you already know?
Are you already familiar with html and the likes?

yep. I can hand code a basic html site but I'm talking OLD SCHOOL html. None of that xml stuff although I understand that it's just an extended form of html.

I've already sort of googled around but I'm not finding anything simple enough to get my feet wet. I think it'd be quickest if someone just sort of walked me through a basic idea visually since I am a visual kinda person. I've always hated programming. Last time I've ever touched was pascal back in high school and I wasn't even crazy about that stuff but I really need to get some working chops for this sort of stuff. Sick of being a hardware geek.

you're probably better off learning on your own
there are plenty of good tutorials out there, try webmonkey.com
thats where i learned php and a few other things

oh, and if you haven't already, get yourself a webhost that runs php

you can get them as low as a dollar per month, or i'm sure someone around here can hook you up for free

Also server scripting stuff would be cool like setting up form mail etc. Damn I sound like a total newb....

His words amounted to "1and1 sucks" and that's pretty true..

Well why does 1 and 1 suck? Ok I didn't really recognize the name but I've noticed some of his posts. I'm a bit passive when it comes to usernames.

1and1 sucks, but for learning purposes you'll be fine with them

once you have a site up, and getting traffic...then you can change

i have sites with 1and1, ripplehost, myonehome.com...all are very cheap
so far i'm most impressed with myonehome - although one of my larger databases disappeared yesterday :| (after a quick email it magically reappeared)

I'm still rather clueless as to why 1&1 sucks LOL
Is it because their control panel looks Mac-like versus a "less userfriendly, PC" look? Since I want to learn this stuff without limits imposed by some proprietary server, I'd like to know the specific reason(s) as to why they suck.
Also I'd like to check out your site and how your databases work with it.

1and1 has bad customer service and frequent down time

I can't show you my php sites cuz they're ecommerce and not launched yet (giving the URL would allow you to purchase test items and such)

*throws hands up in air*
I signed up with them after hearing that they have great uptime. I've mainly been using it to host my email.
Oh well, I could just cancel my account with them since I just opened it last week but I am in the middle of transferring my domain names to them. Wonder if it'll cause complications?
