I'm planning to purchase Turbo Tax Premier 2009 from an online vendor and looking at the Reviews section, I see some people are having problems with getting it installed and/or running. I looks like there's a dependency with .NET Framework 3.5 or something.

I'm curious if anyone on AnandTech has this version and is using it Windows XP SP3 and if its running OK for you or not.

My version of .net was corrupted some how. I fixed it quite easily.

People that are complaining simply arn't takin the 1 minute on Google to find the solution.

The problem is for people that are older and/or less tech savvy. Those people are justifiably pissed. People want to take software out of hte box and install it and use it ... no problems. If you are tech savv, any issue that arrises should be easily resolved.

What Intuit did from a busienss perspective is assinine. People are going to walk away from the product next year. As a software engineer, I already see it. The developers realizing how stupid some decision by a busienss person is in regards to the longevity of the busienss. People like me that have used TurboTax in the past will use it in the future. Intuit truelly has to go out of it's way to drive customers away from TurboTax. Good work Intuit! Fire whoever made the decision to go with .net

Most people will not have an issue with .Net aside from maybe needing to install it, which TT should do on its own if it detects .NET is not present.

Vista and 7 come with .NET already installed, so it only effects XP users.

I was able to install it with no issues - the XP PRo system is always kept current with OS updates.

I also installed the TaxCut equivalent package with no problems.

Both packages will read last years files from each and the other.

The TT user interface is slightly slicker and you pay $10-$20 more for that.

I used it with XP Home SP3 with no issues. My pc already had .net 3.5 .. but it is on the TurboTax CD and the first thing it does, is check to see if your pc has it. If it does not, it installs it.
