Anyone with success using the PAL 8045 on their 8kha+?

I'm about to install one of these (PAL 8045) on this board and wondered if anyone had any helpful hints lest I break something...

There is a single capacitor next to the socket that might give you a bit of trouble. I got mine on, but it is bumping right up against it. Hasn't caused any problems, so I'm not too worried about it. I'm running a 1.4 Tbird with no OCing and my idle temps are in the high 30's celsius (according to the Epox's USDM) when the room temp is at 78F. The cpu gets up to about 42C when I'm fragging, but quickly comes back down to 39C when I'm not gaming. When I get the temp in the room down to about 74F, the cpu temps drop to about 36C. I have a 50cfm Sunon on it that's rated at 40 decibels, but I have to tell you this thing is so much less annoying than my old 60mm 38cfm. This one is more of a hum instead of a whine. Good luck with the install - just be patient and everything should go smoothly 😀

It fits with no problems at all.

Only thing is that you won't be able to do much with the Northbridge fan because it comes up right next to it. Couldn't put on a Blue Orb because there isn't room after you put the Pal on. While you have your mobo out though, you should re-grease the Northbridge fan. I popped mine off and it had goop in only a small center portion.

Also, be careful when screwing in the bolts in the back. I used a curved set of plyers with *NO TEETH* to screw em nice and tight. I've read a post or two about people cutting traces on their mobos by accident when using plyers and what not with teeth.

Other than that, the performance of this HSF is awesome. Its about 1/2 as loud as my old Delta 60mm 7k rpm, and seems even quieter b/c there is no screech/whine. Also, my temps are much cooler. A combo of the XP compared to my old 1.4 t-bird, but still, 35C and I'm running my XP at 1653mhz.
