I'm thinking seriously about getting my lip pierced, but I don't think I could do it if I couldn't take it out (work, formal occasions, martial arts). Is there a period where it can't come out, or is it not a problem?

is it easy to put it back in? how careful do i have to be, and how do i guard against, infection?

Don't. Lip piercings are the ugliest of all. I have a lot of friends with piercings and that is the dumbest thing I see. One friend actually seems to drool more now.
