I am curious to discuss experiences any of you have had meeting people on-line who then develop a relationship in-person afterwards.

How long did you wait before meeting?

If things came up that put-off the planned meeting, how many times did this happen before you became suspicous?

How did the relationship turn out?

Should you be concerned if someone is hesitant to send along a photo?

And whatever else you can think of...

This is how I met my gf. Talked to her online the whole summer after my senior year in high school since she was also going to UCD in the fall. Met in person the first week of class, been together for the last 4 years.

Oh yea! I met my gf too this way! Spoke for a while before we decided to meet... Not too long actually. A few months maybe? We got to know each other better through a common friend actually... We hit it off since the very 1st date, & in 2 weeks it'll be a year :)

Met a chick online. Found out we were both going to Cal. Met up with her. Ick. Tried to avoid her, but she wouldn't give up. Started stalking me and tried to run me over with her truck once. Then it stopped happening as suddenly as it started.

Yes. 4 times.

First was Megan. 2 weeks. Wasn't too happy with how she looked but to this day we are best friends. Nothing came up. Didn't work out cept for friendship. Possibly, possibly not.

Second was Jessica. 3 weeks I think. I thought she was hot, sweet.. looked better than her picture. Led me on for those 3 weeks and stomped on me after. Did her best to avoid me. Obvious she wasn't too happy with how I looked at the time. She waited a week to send her picture but eventually did. Only put off meeting up after she turned me down and said we'd be friends.

Third was Heather. Few days. All I can say is ew. I mean god damn ew. :) no other comments.

Last was Tiffany. I actually considered myself in a relationship online before meeting. It took a year and a half to meet because it was actually long distance. I was happy with how she looked and all that stuff. Could of possibly worked out if she didn't have to move here to be with me.. the moving didn't work out too well and we still talk. We had some good times while she was here though ;) Still care about her. Took awhile to get her picture but I guess she was just nervous (she still is to this day)..

There's my story.

Shouldn't be too long before UnixGeek weighs in with the might of his worldly ways and, with caring words, leads us all to the Promised Land of Inflatable Women.

Sounds like most people have had decent experiences. How did your families or the families of the people you met deal with it? Any concerns or negative feedback?

I've met a few people online. I wasn't looking to meet someone for a relationship, just got to chatting and had some common interest. The first guy Dave I met several months after we first started chatting. He's a very sweet guy and we still keep in contact. I've been to visit him a couple of times. He recently married a girl he met online! :)

The second guy I met at a caving event after chatting for several months. We are still friends too. The best thing about meeting the second guy...I met the guy I'm with now! :D

Although my BF and I didn't 'meet' online, that's how we got to know each other before we had our fist planned meeting.

We've been together for a little over a year now :D
