Anyone with at Abit BX6-rev2, I need Help

I have an interesting question. I have an Abit BX6-rev2 Mainboard, currently running a Katami P3-500. I was wanting to upgrade to around an 800. In the bios, there are soft multiplier options for 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, and 8. So, I would assume that I could plunk a regular Slot one 800 in, but I read that they can only handle up to 700mhz CPU's.

I emailed Abit and they confirmed this, saying that:
"With the latest Bios update, the BX6 v2.0 should support the Pentium III processor at 700MHz only. Even though there is multiplier factor of 8x, the motherboard is offically supporting up to the PIII-700MHz.
Does anyone own one of these MB's & a P3-750/800? Can you confirm either way for me?

Thankyou!

It's my understanding that since Intel CPUs are multiplier locked, it doesn't matter what the multiplier is set to in the BIOS, its the CPU that determines this. Mulltiplier X FSB is the speed you'll be running at so it doesn't really matter what the MOBO oficially supports.

The P!!! 800 should be fine.

I'm assuming that the 800 would run at about the same voltage settings as your 500.

I have a Bx6R2 running 550Mhz (5.5x100) at 5.5x138 = 759Mhz. I also have a 733Mhz (5.5x133) not overclocked P3 using 133Bus w/o any problem. I'm using NV, which is last december, latest bios has some problem with my 40 gig hds so I don't use it.. also have pics.

Thanks for your help, but what I am really looking for is someone who is running one of the "unsupported" CPU's(750 or 800). That is, the default CPU clock speed is 750 or 800mhz. It is good to know that you can overclock beyond what they support, but I just really want an example of someone running one of those rigs.
Thanks

Normally mobo makers will only officially support what chips are available at the time the board is produced. If you go to the Abit web site, I'm sure you'll find that that board will support every 66 and 100MHz Slotted Celeron, PII, or PIII made. Forcesho is absolutely right with his comment about using the slocket2, so now your limitations are almost nil. Be careful overclocking that board with a 133MHz FSB PIII. If you set your FSB that high, the board will handle it, but your video card, nic, etc. might flake. Good luck!!

I just got my slotket yesterday - MSI6905 - and installed a C633 on an Abit BX6. Abit doesn't support anything over a C533 and I think P!!!550 but I am having no problems. It's running at 980 - 9.5 x 103FSB

The C633 even running at stock speed is unsupported by Abit. As long as your BIOS supports the right range of voltages you'll be OK.
