I quite fancy getting an Asus board but want to confirm some functionality before I do. It's to with the i7 965 EE CPU being able to have it's turbo boost settings defined by the user in some bioses. There is a thread about it here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2251220&enterthread=y

So far I have confirmed that MSI and Intel boards allow the settings.

Just looking through the manuals for the Asus p6t and Rampage II. You seem to be able to do something simular to what can be done on the MSI and Intel boards with the turbo limits. Just not in the bios.

The TurboV software has a place in the advanced section under the 'cpu ratio' section where multipliers can be set, only for the 965 EE though. There are four sets of multipliers denoted (i, ii, iii & iv).

The manual is very brief so I am not sure of how these four setting relate to the turbo limits for the case of one, two, three, or four cores being in use. And whether they can even be changed individually. I can't see anything like on the other boards that allow you to change the TDP or current limits for the turbo mode though.

Can anyone with an X58 Asus board and a 965 EE CPU confirm the functionallity or expand on what effect these settings have. I.E are they static overclock settings or are they dynamic if Intel powersaving features are left on in the Bios?

I.e by putting x26 as the multiplier against all the setttings (i, ii, iii & iv), and turning of TDP protection in the bios. Does the proccessor speed go up to 3.6 ghz (133 x 26) when under-load and then back to 3.2 or lower, when idle?

I really quite fancy an Asus board, but only if it can be set to do something like this as the MSI and Intel boards can.....

I go for no power saving features so I can't comment there. I don't like running the Asus software so I can't comment there but do know it's not needed to comply with the Turbo requirement you're referring to.

I have the Rampage II Extreme and and quite pleased. I had a Rampage Formula prior to this, neither board dissapoints. The P6T is quite good too, I just like the ROG series.

Consider getting an i7 920? They overclock quite nicely and you'll save some serious cash. That's what you buy a good overclocking board for. ;)

My 920 is rock solid stable at 3,700 with 1.27v. With a good cooler, you'll be running nicely. I've attached some of my bios screens for reference. I chose a CPU ratio of 19 because it gets me closer to my memory max spec at the 3.7 I wanted:

I'm sure you'll notice the bold red warning about exceeding 1.65v DRAM voltage. The 1.67 is the next highest setting after 1.65xx, my memory needed the extra bit. You'll notice in the voltage screen that it comes out to 1.65xx anyway.

Thanks for the response. Sorry to sound ungrateful, but is that it? It all works..... Does the turboV app work as I thought with you able to put different multipliers against each of (i, ii, iii & iv). For example x27 against i, x26 against ii, x25 against iii and x24 against iv.

Though it maybe jelousy talking as you have exactly the spec of PC I want to build myself next week...

Thanks for the details, but I want to try and take advantage of a feature unique to the 965 which is it allows you to configure turbo mode to your own desires. So you can set it to instead of only over clocking the CPU 133mhz or 266 when only one core is in use to set it to say 400 mhz or above even when all cores are in use (as loong as you have good enough cooling). And the extra bonus being that since it is done through turbo mode it is a dynamic overclock, i.e it only clocks up when extra power is needed, bt go's to stock speed and power consumption when your not doing anything. I know this is not for everybody, but it is something I want to use and it can only be done with 965 ee and a supporting bois.

Here's and example of the turbo config on an intel motherboad that does this:http://www.tomshardware.com/ga...5333-0-2-3-1-png-.html

That's cool, power saving is a good thing. I may try the settings at some point, but when the rig is on, it's mainly for gaming. Hope you find the answers!
