XP seems to have drivers for my printer and it works on my Win98SE system on the network but I just can't get XP to recognize the printer over the LAN. I downloaded the SMC guide on installing the print server in XP but still no luck. IS this working for anyone or is it just my printer?

I have the Barricade +wireless AP printserver working on my (very) mixed network of Win98, Win2K and WinXP machines. The printer is an ancient Epson ESC 600. I set it up awhile ago, I seem to recall that it didn't work the first time.

I *think* I ended up running the printserver install from the Barricade CD and I'm pretty sure that I first installed the Epson drivers. After that I just chose the "PRT" port on the XP box.

Sorry that I can't remember any more details, but it the printer can be driven from non-XP machines it *should* work with XP.

Good luck,

If XP works like the W2K, it will not recognize the printer as network printer. Set up the printer as local printer and then select the Barricade port for it.

I got it to work without a problem at all in win 2k and xp. are you talking about smc router? I am using the 7004 br one. the only thing that I hate is when I print it says the printer is not responding but after one second it will print without a problem at all.

Much obliged for all the info. Yah, I did install it as a local printer throught the IP port, as outlined in the instructions. I did NOT, however, install the drivers that came with it...i just used the ones that XP found when adding new hardware. I will drop the Guru a line and see what he came up with. Thanks

I found these instructions on usenet and they work for me:

The printer port on the SMC Barricade can be addressed directly by
Windows XP (and Windows 2000) without any additional software.

Here are the steps you would take to set that up.

1. Start the Add Printer Wizard
2. For the printer type, select a Local Printer, and clear the
Automatically detect... checkbox
3. For the printer port, select Create a new port, Standard TCP/IP
Port
4. In the Add Standard TCP/IP Port Wizard, enter the IP address for
the SMC Barricade (the Port Name does not matter)
5. When asked for the Device Type, select Custom, then click
Settings...
6. Change the Protocol from Raw to LPR, and enter "lp" (without the
quotes) as the Queue Name
7. Click OK to close that wizard, then Next and Finish to close the
port wizard.
8. Select the printer make and model as normal

Got mine to work on a Barricade. Make sure you download the printer files from smc's website. THen when you try to add a local printer, "SMC100" should show up along w/ (LPT1 . . . COM1 . . .etc).
