Anyone with Adelphia HD programming?

I currently have DirecTV with TiVo, and my contract will be running out next month. I want to make the move to HD finally, and I think the prices are in my favor. However, my local cable provider, Adelphia, has really upped their service here lately, and they are looking quite attractive. They also now provide HD programming, and I'm wondering if anyone here can provide their experiences with it. I've just signed up for their premier cable internet (4Mb/512Kb), and am considering switching everything back over.

Thanks.

I have it in So Cal. Not many HD channels (networks, PBS, HBO/Cinemax, ESPN HD for $1.50 more.) They did just add DiscoveryHD which is really cool. The KCET (PBS) HD channel has gone to hell though, heavy motion artifacts. I don't know if thats Adelphia or KCET stealing the bandwidth. They are supposed to be adding more HD channels next year. It's not really worth it for $10 a month but when you get the HD-DVR (MOXI) it's only $13 a month which includes the HD service. I just had the MOXI installed, dual tuners and HD recording and it's awesome (and I had DirecTivos.)

If you've never had HD than get used to watching the same thing over and over on the all-HD channels. I don't watch much network stuff but almost all their prime time is HD now.

Thanks for the reply. I inquired about the DVR service here, and it was supposed to release this month, but they haven't seen it yet. So I expect it soon. How does the Adelphia DVR software compare to TiVo, since you've had both, and are basically in the same situation as I am. I love season pass and the interface. What can I expect with Adelphia DVR when it's available here?

If you want the most HD, give voom a look. They have 39 HD channels right now and are increasing that to 70 in march..... if you can get your locals with an antenna (voom doesnt have locals on the sattelite yet, but do provide an antenna.... but pretty much any city in the top50 markets should have msot if not all of their networks online)

Just something else to look at.

Installed equipment is $1/HD box (up to 3) and 5 bucks for the morroring/rent (6 month commitment). A very good deal to try them out.

If you actually want adelphia you need to find people in your area to see experinces.... cable companies vary greatly from area to area (even within the same company).

True, but my area has just gotten HD programming, so I don't have the resources to find the info I want. So I'm going for an overall feeling of their service.

As for Voom, aren't they being sold or shut down?

Their future is in the air but most likely even if they are shut down it wont be anytime soon.... if they were why would they be adding new channels (Sunshine Network in Florida went up today).....

That article says cablevision isnt going to spin voom off into its own company.... people inferred that it meant voom would be sold.

If you area is just getting HD I would wait atleast a month or so before adding it.... they always have problems for the first few weeks.

I just got the MOXI a day before I left for x-mas. The interface is completely different but still pretty nice, one plus being you can watch TV while in the menu. The season pass functionality is there. The consensus at tivocommunity is that the only downside is it doesn't have wishlists (which I don't use.) The response seems to be quicker than my series 1 DirecTivo. But the ability to time shift HD is a huge plus given the lack of programming out there.

I can't comment on their HD service as their rates out here SUCK as does their cable service, so I use DTV, but I recently upgraded to their premier Powerlink here in NH, and it flies. I get better than rated speeds...ends up being more like 5mb/768kb.

I wonder how long they will be around though...they are still in bankruptcy, and word is Time Warner and Commiecast both want to buy them.

I have read some reviews/notes on dslreports.com for the Adelphia 4Mb/512Kb service in my area, and a couple are getting higher than rated speeds as well. Seeing as to how I'm right across the interstate (I'm guesstimating 600 yards total) from the source, I'm hoping I will be fine.

Last year I had their 3Mb/384Kb service, and easily got 2.8Mb at all times. I then switched to Bellsouth DSL's 3Mb/256Kb service for price reasons, and I realistically only get around 2.2Mb max. So now I'm swallowing that extra $10 a month and going for what I call fast-as-fvck internet.

That's awesome to hear, as I never used the wishlists either. Thanks a bunch.
