Are you looking at SATA for the sake of using the onboard controller? I still think a PCI PATA RAID card would be a better way to go, as it will make your array transferrable between platforms and offer legacy support on future boards for PATA drives. The cost for PATA drives would be much cheaper (80GB PATA go for $80 or less in those Staples,CUSA, BB deals), while the cheapest SATA drives are ~$150 for the 80GB drives (Seagates). Also, there won't be any performance increase until you start seeing those WD 10K Raptors, but those are going to be released in much smaller capacities and should be only slightly cheaper than a comparable 10K SCSI drive ($160 for 36GB I believe).
